Daudet and Pajon World Champions at the BMX Worlds in Copenhagen 2011

After three beautiful days with challenge and elite time trial competitions at the BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, adrenaline and action filled the track today when the absolute BMX elite competed for the prestigious World Championships titles in what many believes to be the toughest field ever.

Winner, elite men: Joris Daudet, France
Joris Daudet from France completed a perfect season with today’s World Championship title in a close and exciting race in the mens' final where he beat both the defending world champion and reigning Olympic champion Maris Strombergs from Latvia, and New Zealander Marc Willers.

"I’ve had a really good season and my only tactics for today was to get a good start," Daudet stated after the race. Daudet promised at the same time to do his absolute best in London next year.

Earlier this year Daudet won the European championship after being best in 12 out of 12 races in the series. In the second corner oo the track in the final, Daudet made a good move on Willers and went on the inside of the leading Willers and held the lead all the way to the finish line in one of the most thrilling World Championship races this year.

Winner, elite female: Mariana Pajon, Columbia
In the womens' elite final Sarah Walker from New Zealand and Mariana Pajon from Columbia were favorites after the heats of the day. Another top favorite, the British London Olympics hope Shanaze Reade, missed her gate in the semifinals and therefore didn’t make it to the finals.

Mariana Pajon won all her heats of the day on the way to the finals, where the little Columbian flew down the start ramp and took the lead on the first straight. Although Sarah Walker pushed from behind the fast Columbian increased her lead and won her first world championship in the elite in great style - it was her 14th title overall as Pajon has won a long number of titles in the Challenge classes since she was 9 years old. “This year it was my time, it’s just great”, Pajon said after her win.

Junior championships
Today’s winner among the junior women was Melinda McLeod from Australia, who also won the time trials yesterday. McLeod’s double world championship was ensured even after she was hit by a moped just before the time trial yesterday. “I focused on doing my best in the competition, and I’m proud I was able to leave the accident behind”, McLeod stated after her double World Championship victory.

Alfredo Campo from Ecuador won gold in the junior men’s competition after winning all his heats of the day - a big step on his way to getting into great results in the men’s elite next year.

Danish best on home ground
With two men in the quarterfinals and the Danish champion Morten Therkildsen in the semi finals, Denmark had its best World Championship results ever in the BMX Supercross on home ground in Copenhagen. Therkildsen finished 14th overall and and Klaus Boegh Andresen 21st.

Dueño de una aceleación increible y una revolución de piernas comom nadie a logrado un nuevo título mundial, el que se suma a los anteriores y al título Olímpico.

Si bien le costó salir de una grave lesión llegó a este mundial en las mejores condiciones dejando bajo el podio a candidatos como Sifiso Nhlapo , Joris Daudet, Thomas Hamon, Raymon Van der Biezen.



Strombergs and Reade reclaim their BMX world titles

Pietermaritzburg – It was a case of call back the past when Latvian Maris Strombergs and Briton Shanaze Reade reclaimed the UCI BMX World Championship men’s and women’s titles respectively in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday – but the hero for the partisan South African crowd was men’s runner up Sifiso Nhlapo.

Strombergs was without doubt the deserved winner and he was never headed in a frenetic day of racing that saw an unhealthy sprinkling of thrills and spills on the purpose-built track at the Royal Showgrounds.

For the local crowd the men’s final result was a bitter sweet conclusion to the day’s racing. For Sifiso Nhlapo it was simply another step on his tough journey to glory. After finishing third in the 2008 World Championships, Skizo as he is known was forced to watch the 2009 World Champs after he broke his neck in a horrific training crash. So to end second is a step forward and victory in 2011 would simply be the continuation of a progression.

Frenchman Joris Daudet claimed the bronze medal in the men’s event after pre-event favourite Sam Willoughby went down in a big crash on the first turn.

In the women’s final, talented Reade added more World Championship gold to her trophy cabinet that already includes medals from two BMX World Championships and the 2007 and 2008 World Track Championships. Reade regained the world title when she outrode the opposition from the start ramp by taking the holeshot, although she was given a bit of help when her biggest challenger, Frenchwomen Laëtitia Le Corguillé unclipped and was left off the pace from the start.

New Zealand’s Sarah Walker claimed the silver and American Alise Post the bronze medal but neither ever came close to the fast-starting Reade.

In the junior women’s final, Netherland’s Merle van Benthem grabbed the holeshot from the start and beat off the challenge of American Brooke Crain and Australian Melinda McLeod.

The junior men’s race was loaded with drama as US favourite Connor Fields went to the front as expected and looked to be on his way to an easy win, but he took the rhythm section too fast and crashed heavily, allowing Frenchman Sylvain Andre to grab the win from Kristers Lejins (Latvia) and Twan van Gendt (Netherlands).

Todo mal, el peor regional en años

Señores.

El 8vo regional de las Condes puede ser catalogado como el peor regional de los últimos tiempos, todo mal.

Hay varias razones que hay que evaluar para entender este fracaso, pero ninguna de ellas es excusa para el paupérrimo desempeño de la directiva del club.

1. La pista no tiene las mínimas condiciones para poder desarrollar un evento como este. No tiene corriente eléctrica y tampoco tiene agua potable, insumos mínimos para cualquier actividad deportiva.

2. El club tiene una directiva sin cohesión, no hay liderazgo. Cargos importantes no hacen su trabajo y ni siquiera saben lo que sucede y menos muestran interés en las actividades que desarrollamos, la mano se carga en 2 o 3 personas.

Tenemos la gente, la experiencia y las ganas de hacerlo bien, pero parece que no estamos preparados para la organización de carreras del campeonato metropolitano. Creo que la única opción es quedarnos con los abiertos y campeonatos escolares, ahí estamos bien, pero no estamos preparados para más.

Lo siento mucho y le pido disculpas a la gente que fue antes,

Pero las cosas hay que decirlas por su nombre.
